Bowling prank spurs local outbreak

Lafayette, IN - Mon, 22 Oct 2007

A prank played on unsuspecting bowler Tommy "Three Fingers" Riggs turned deadly on Tuesday at the Slippery Pete bowling alley in Lafayette. An unidentified friend of Riggs swapped the bowling ball in his bag with the head of a zombie. Upon reaching for his ball, Riggs briefly assumed the moniker "Two Fingers" and subsequently became a walking corpse. Many bowlers were caught by surprise and were infected, resulting in a minor outbreak.

Fortunately the zombies were contained within the bowling alley, but unlucky owner Burt Cinder was forced to watch his property burn to the ground. Several patrons, realizing that zombies were running amok in the lanes resorted to bashing zombie heads with 16 pound balls. One employee stated that the lanes had just been waxed earlier that morning and many zombies couldn't find any footing. Several witnesses remarked on the amazing skill displayed by local bowling champion Bernie Johnson, who scored a perfect game by taking down a dozen zombies in lanes six through twelve.

An agent for the CDC was dispatched to the scene and was troubled by the advanced infection rate: "Usually an outbreak like this takes 24 hours to develop, but these zombies were created within minutes." It is not known where the prank zombie head originated, and all viable evidence was destroyed in the blaze. It is believed that the fire started in the kitchen after several zombies caught on fire searching for food.
