Dead Alive (1992)

Summary
Lionel's mother is bitten by a rat monkey from Skull Island that is on display at the local zoo. When she collapses later at home, he calls the nurse. But it's apparently too late and mother kicks the bucket. But as the nurse consoles Lionel, mother rises again and gruesomely rips the nurse's head almost clean off! The nurse also becomes a zombie and Lionel locks them in the basement. But mother escapes one day while Lionel is at the store and gets plowed by a trolley in the street. Knowing she isn't really "dead", he uses tranquilizer to keep her from rising while they go through with the funeral. Once she's buried, Lionel sneaks to the grave during the night, but is accosted by some punks. Mother wakes up an attacks, and soon all the hooligans are zombies too. Then the priest comes out to "kick ass for the Lord" and goes Bruce Lee on the zombies, but ultimately gets bitten and killed. Using tranquilizer Lionel manages to get the priest, the one remaining zombie punk, and his mother back to the house and into the basement with the zombie nurse. He tries to take care of them, including a zombie baby conceived by the nurse after getting it on with the priest! But his nosy uncle forces his way into the house and throws a bash for all his friends. The party gets good when the zombies escape the basement, soon turning the entire house into a zombie fest. Lionel is able to kill all the zombies, ultimately using a lawn mower and comes face to face with his mother on the roof - transformed into a huge monster. He escapes as his mom falls through the roof and the house goes up in flames.

Review
Bring on the guts! This is one of the goriest movies of all time. And it's one of best zombie movies too. It's not really that scary, but if you can stomach all the blood it's pretty funny. The special effects are great, with zombies and body parts of all sorts. One zombie loses its entire innards, and the guts proceed to follow Lionel around the house!

Best Zombie Kill
One of the last surviving women has already been bitten and appears to be unconscious. But then her head suddenly splits apart and and out comes the zombie baby, tearing its way out!

Best Zombie Death
The infamous "I kick ass for the Lord!" fight. The preacher takes on two zombies in an epic display of martial arts. He does an arm twist on one zombie and rips it off at the shoulder! After a few more moves he rips off the other arm, then does a sweeping back kick and severs both legs, followed by a front snap kick that takes the head clean off, sending it sailing in the air! Unfortunately for the preacher, the head comes back down from above, lands on his neck, and takes a nice bite out of his neck.

Memorable Scene
Without a doubt, when Lionel cleans house with his lawn mower! He uses a rope to harness the mower on his shoulder and uses it to chop the entire zombie horde in his house to pieces! His nemesis - the punk zombie who's innards are running around being a nuisance - provides the scene's climax as all its parts get devoured by the mower! By the end Lionel is covered with blood and guts and the room is littered with gore and body parts!
